ISLMABAD: The pneumonia outbreak has claimed the lives of 11 more individuals in Punjab within the last 24 hours. The surge in pneumonia cases is attributed to the prevailing smog, dry, and cold weather conditions.
Over the past day, Punjab reported a total of 415 cases, with 11 children falling victim to the virus. In Lahore alone, the virus took two lives, while 160 cases were recorded.
Throughout the ongoing winter season, Punjab has documented 13,720 cases, with Lahore accounting for 3,205 cases. The death toll in the province has risen to 309, with numerous infants undergoing treatment in Lahore hospitals for chest infections.
Health experts have pinpointed smog and air pollution as the primary factors driving the increase in pneumonia cases. Pneumonia, characterized by lung infection, is primarily caused by viral infections, with young children, particularly those under five years old, being at higher risk of contracting the disease.
