HANGU: In a successful operation, local police busted a gang allegedly involved in making fake identity cards for Afghan citizens.
During a press conference, District Police Officer (DPO) Nasar Ahmed Khan revealed that 14 individuals associated with the illegal racket have been taken into custody.
He said that the group members include a village secretary, NADRA employees and their accomplices.
DPO Nasar Ahmed highlighted that ongoing efforts have led to the arrest of eight individuals, including NADRA employees, engaged in the production of these fake identity cards.
“The gang was operating with the intention of providing Afghan nationals with Pakistani identity documents in exchange for substantial sums of money, amounting to approximately Rs0.9 million per person.
The police officer said that the gang would exploit vulnerable individuals, including an elderly woman, coercing her into facilitating the production of fake identity cards and documents, ostensibly for religious purposes such as Zakat.
He said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under foreign ordinance and other relevant laws.
This significant breakthrough in curbing identity card forgery emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the integrity of official documents, particularly in regions bordering Afghanistan.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring that fraudulent activities are effectively dealt with to preserve the security and legality of official documentation processes.
