Police foil militant assaults on two posts in KP

PESHAWAR: Police repelled two attempted militant attacks on posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials say.

According to police, a group of militants tried to target the Fatah Khel police post in the Mandan police station area, but security personnel stationed there returned fire and forced the attackers to retreat.

Police said that at around 2 am, thermal cameras detected the suspicious movement of more than 15 armed men near the post, where they were attempting to take positions in a nearby wooded area.

Security personnel at the checkpoint were already on high alert and opened heavy fire, prompting the militants to flee under the cover of darkness, officials said.

A senior police official in the Bannu region praised the officers for their swift response and professionalism, saying the timely use of modern technology and the alertness of personnel had foiled the militants’ plans.

A search operation was under way in the area to trace the attackers who escaped, police said.

In a separate incident, militants also attempted to attack the Sakhi Pul police post in the Khyber District, but the assault was similarly repelled after police responded quickly, according to the Warsak police superintendent.
