WEB DESK: Ghotki police successfully rescued 10 passengers who were abducted from the Ghotki-Gudu-Kashmore Link Road following an armed encounter with the kidnappers, officials said. Two of the rescued passengers sustained injuries and were being transferred to Ubaro Hospital for treatment, according to SSP Ghotki Anwar Khetran.

The confrontation occurred near the Sonmiani area in the rural (kacha) region, where police forces, led by DIG Sukkur and four SSPs, launched a coordinated operation against the armed gang. Heavy contingents, including armoured vehicles and advanced technology, were deployed, and drone strikes were also carried out on the kidnappers’ positions.

SSP Khetran noted that poor visibility due to dense fog created challenges during the operation. The rescued passengers were taken into police custody and moved to a secure location, with the operation continuing until all abductees are safely recovered and the kidnappers neutralised.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ubaro reported that in total, 10 passengers were recovered, while other passengers were discovered hiding in the same field.

The police search and rescue operation is still ongoing in the Sonmiani area and surrounding sugarcane fields to ensure no abductees remain and to track down the remaining suspects. Authorities emphasised that the operation would continue until complete safety and justice are ensured.

This swift police response highlights law enforcement’s increasing focus on rapid action and technology-assisted operations in rural areas prone to armed abductions and criminal activity.
