ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Judge Justice Muhammad Asif’s minor son was handed over to police on physical remand in connection with the killing of two teenage girls in Is;lamabad.
Judicial magistrate Shaista Khan Kundi approved the physical remand on the police’s request.
According to the FIR registered at Secretariat Police Station, the incident occurred late Monday night near the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), where a speeding black car struck the two girls, who were working at PNCA. The car was reportedly being driven by the judge’s minor son.
The victims were riding a scooter when they were hit and reportedly died on the spot. Police said the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision.
The FIR, filed by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asghar, stated that police traced the car using its registration number and later located the suspect at a private hospital, where he had been taken for medical attention.
The minor was subsequently taken into custody, and medical and forensic samples were collected, while the vehicle was seized for investigation.
The case has been registered under the Pakistan Penal Code sections 279 (speeding and reckless driving), 322 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 427 (mischief causing damage).
During court proceedings, the investigating officer requested an extended physical remand to complete further investigation, including verifying the suspect’s medical report, examining the vehicle, and recording witness statements. After reviewing the records and police request, the court approved the additional remand.
The victims’ bodies were transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a post-mortem. Police said CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine whether the vehicle was speeding or negligence was involved. Authorities assured the victims’ families that the investigation will be conducted on merit.
The case echoes a previous incident in 2022 when a vehicle, reportedly driven by the daughter of a Lahore High Court judge, struck two people near Sohan Bridge on the expressway. That investigation faced delays.
Judicial records also show that on June 8, Shakil Tanoli and his companion Hasnain Ali were hit late at night by a vehicle allegedly driven by a woman.
In July 2024, Islamabad Police IG Ali Nasir Rizvi informed the high court that the hit-and-run vehicle was being driven by the daughter of Supreme Court Judge Malik Shehzad Ahmad.
In February 2024, a local Islamabad court had acquitted Supreme Court Judge Malik Shehzad Ahmad’s daughter, Shanze Malik, in a separate case. Judicial Magistrate Adnan Yousuf accepted the acquittal plea filed by the defendant’s legal team.
