- Violation of Section 182 of the Electoral Act 2017 will result in legal action, warns Election Commission spokesperson
ISLAMABAD: In a recent press release, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a stern warning to all candidates and political parties participating in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.
Concerns raised by ROs over Election Management System
The ECP, through its spokesperson, highlighted the implementation of Section 182 of the Electoral Act 2017, imposing a complete ban on political activities after the clock strikes midnight between February 6 and 7.
According to a press release issued towards the end of the previous month, no individual will be permitted to organise or partake in meetings, processions, corner meetings, or any political activities after this time.
The Election Commission emphasised the gravity of these restrictions, stating that any violation of the stipulated regulations would result in legal consequences for the offending parties.
ECP’s spokesperson reiterated the importance of maintaining a fair and impartial electoral process, emphasising the need for all candidates and political entities to adhere strictly to the electoral laws. The Commission’s proactive approach aims to ensure a level playing field for all contestants, preventing any undue advantage for a particular candidate or party.
