Political parties dub PTI intra-party elections a mockery

ISLAMABAD: Political parties have rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) intra-party election of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf terming it a mockery of the election process and the Election Commission of Pakistan

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb termed the election of the PTI Chairman as a “selection”.

She said that once again the process of “selection” in the PTI has been completed in just 15 minutes. By stopping the press release of the election result for an hour and half, they tried to hoodwink the people, the Election Commission of Pakistan and their party workers.

“What kind of election was this which held at an unknown and secret location, which had no proposer, no supporter, no voters, no voters list, no presiding officer, and no election process? The founding members of the party and workers were excluded from the election process due to the fear. It is called rigging, autocracy and selection,” she added.

She went on to say: “If you want to see the picture of rigged, managed, manipulated and dictated elections, then look at this “selection” today.

“This is a serious mockery of democracy, Election Commission and party workers and an open violation of election rules.”

She urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of the sham PTI elections.

Pakistan Peoples Party has also rejected the PTI intra-party election. During a presser today, PPP leader Faisal Kundi said that the PTI intra-party elections raised many questions.

He said that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had contested elections on the PPP ticket in the past.

Kundi took a dig at the PTI saying that the Tahreek-i-Insaf did not find its own man, it got only a ‘jiyala’.

IPP leader Fayyazul Hassan Chohan also raised questions on the PTI intra-party elections, asking “Whether PTI will accept such kind of general elections? If such an exercise is conducted by others the PTI will raise alarm saying the country is at risk.”

He said these are not elections rather a slap on the face of democracy. “Has former PTI chairman been lecturing others on such kind of democracy for the last 26 years?” he questioned.

Akbar S. Babar, the estranged co-founder of the PTI, said he would challenge the decision of the intra-party election, and also asked the Supreme Court to take notice.

He denied the PTI chief election commissioner’s claims that he didn’t appear to file his nomination, saying he went to the PTI central secretariat in Islamabad himself with his associates. He said that when he asked the party representatives for nomination papers and voters list, they said they didn’t exist and that the whole exercise was mere formality to please the election commission.
