PPP urges PTI to exhibit democratic attitude

PPP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership huddled at the President’s House to discuss the government’s possible move to ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the reserved seats issue.

President Asif Ali Zardari chaired the meeting which was attended by key PPP leaders.

Sources said that the PPP leaders expressed their reservations on PTI’s actions, calling the party to exhibit democratic attitude and norms.

They emphasised that if PTI considers itself a political party, it must adopt the democratic conduct befittingly.

The meeting also discussed the Supreme Court’s decision regarding reserved seats, the current economic and political situation of the country.

During the discussions, PPP leaders reaffirmed their commitment to democratic principles, highlighting their alliance with the federal government and their support for every constitutional and legal decision made by the government.

They reiterated that PTI’s behaviour does not align with democratic norms and stressed that PTI must act like a true political party if it claims to be one.

Earlier, the federal government announced its decision to ban PTI and prosecute its founding chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan under Article 6.

Additionally, the government has filed a review appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats.

Earlier, Information Minister Atta Tarar stated that the government has resolved to send a reference under Article 6 against Imran Khan, former president Arif Alvi and former deputy speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri to the Supreme Court.
