Premier League: Man Utd have room to ‘grow’, says Amorim after Spurs setback

Premier League: Mohammad Kudus ‘touch and go’ for Tottenham vs Man United clash

LONDON: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said his side is “in the beginning of becoming a very strong team” after extending their unbeaten run to five Premier League games with a dramatic 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

The Red Devils looked set to rise to second in the table as they led for nearly an hour thanks to Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half header. However, Spurs turned the game on its head with two quick goals in seven minutes from Mathys Tel and Richarlison.

Even after going down to 10 men when Benjamin Sesko limped off following all five substitutions, United showed resilience, salvaging a point with Matthijs de Ligt’s towering header in the 96th minute.

Amorim praised his team’s determination but felt they should have secured all three points after dominating the first half.

“During the game, you feel that the three points were there,” the Portuguese said.

“If you look at the game and feel the environment, we have so much to grow as a team because today was our day to win.”

He added: “If we had a little more bravery, we could have killed this game.”

The draw leaves United in seventh place, with the possibility of dropping out of the top half depending on other results this weekend. Yet Amorim sees clear progress during his longest unbeaten streak since taking charge at Old Trafford just over a year ago.

“I understand that this is just the tip of the iceberg. We are just at the beginning of becoming a very strong team, so we have a lot to do,” he said.

“We believe in our capacity to score goals until the last minute—and today, we proved that.”

Earlier, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank described winger Mohammad Kudus as “touch and go” for tonight’s Premier League clash against Manchester United.

The in-form attacker Mohammad Kudus suffered a knock during Tottenham’s 10 October clash against Chelsea, which also ruled him out of Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Europa League. Speaking at a press conference, Frank said, “Everyone came through Copenhagen okay. Cuti and Destiny gave an ok nod that seemed both are fit and available. Mo is touch and go for tomorrow—we will see.”
