President Alvi calls for raising awareness on mental health

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi, emphasised the need to formulate a comprehensive plan to address the increasing mental health challenges in the nation.
These sentiments were conveyed by the president while presiding over a subsequent meeting on mental health at Aiwan-e-Sadr, as announced in a press release by the President’s Secretariat Press Wing.
He stressed the importance of implementing a unified strategy that encompasses collaborative efforts from different stakeholders, including pertinent government bodies, the Prime Minister’s Office, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), psychiatric associations, and the broader civil society.
These steps aim to effectively alleviate the mental health challenges faced by Pakistan.

In the meeting, the president underscored the significance of mental health as a significant concern, emphasizing the necessity for a unified approach from all relevant stakeholders.
He pointed out that approximately 24 per cent of the nation’s population grappled with diverse mental health challenges, while 60 per cent of college and university students experienced stress.
