President announces university in Nawazabad; slams Imran Khan’s jail complaints

Nawazabad address

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Asif Ali Zardari has urged party workers to remain steadfast in the face of political challenges, saying hardships should be endured with courage rather than complaint.

Addressing party workers in Nawazabad in Rahim Yar Khan, the president said that today leadership with the mindset and bravery of Benazir Bhutto is rarely seen, “Difficulties should be faced bravely”. Taking an aim at Imran Khan’s recent complaints from behind bars, he said, “Serve your time in jail like a man, why are you crying like a woman?”

Zardari recalled the struggles faced by Benazir Bhutto, stating that she had endured imprisonment for years in Sukkur Central Jail yet remained determined in her political mission. He said steadfastness in struggle ultimately earns respect, adding, “The more you bow down, the more respect you will get.”

Referring to past political events, Zardari said his “sister was arrested at night,” questioning why party workers had forgotten those testing times. He emphasized that political workers must not lose heart during periods of adversity.

The president also highlighted his party’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that they had made Yousaf Raza Gilani prime minister and expressing respect for the Saraiki region. “My mother tongue is Saraiki,” he said, reiterating his connection to the area.

Zardari said he learned politics from Benazir Bhutto, who in turn sought guidance from her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He revealed that some friendly countries had advised Benazir against returning to Pakistan prior to her assassination, but she chose to honor her promise to the people.

Recalling her final days, Zardari said he had advised her against venturing out due to security concerns, but she remained fearless. “She was the daughter of Bhutto and was not afraid,” he said, adding that her martyrdom was a tragedy the family did not anticipate.

Concluding his address, Zardari vowed that they would not allow Pakistan to weaken and urged supporters to remain united and courageous in the face of challenges.
