President Macron calls PM Sharif, praises Pakistan’s mediation in Iran-US ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday praised Pakistan’s role in helping secure a ceasefire between Iran and the United States during a telephone call with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Macron congratulated Sharif on Pakistan’s mediation efforts, which he said had helped bring both sides to the negotiating table, and conveyed his best wishes for the success of upcoming peace talks scheduled in Islamabad, according to the statement.

Sharif thanked the French leader for supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Both leaders also voiced serious concern over ongoing violence in Lebanon and stressed the urgent need to end hostilities and restore peace across the region.

The two agreed to remain in contact, the statement added.
