President, PM extend Christmas greetings to Christian community in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Federal Minister Mohsin Naqvi have extended heartfelt Christmas greetings to the Christian community in Pakistan and around the world, reiterating messages of peace, tolerance, harmony, and equal rights.

In his Christmas message, President Asif Ali Zardari said that Christmas is a time of hope, peace, and compassion, reminding humanity of shared values of love and service. He stated that the message of love and service to humanity unites all human beings, regardless of faith or background.

The President acknowledged the important role played by Christian citizens in public service and various national sectors, noting that their contributions have strengthened Pakistan’s social fabric. He reaffirmed that the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights and complete religious freedom to every citizen.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, extended heartfelt greetings to the Christian community living across the world, particularly in Pakistan. He prayed that Christmas brings peace, stability, and prosperity to the Christian community and to the country as a whole. The Prime Minister said that Christmas carries a universal message of love, peace, and tolerance for all humanity.

He praised the active and positive role of the Christian community in Pakistan, especially highlighting their valuable services in the fields of education and healthcare, which have significantly contributed to social harmony and national development.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar extended greetings to the nation on the birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam, paying heartfelt tribute to the Father of the Nation. He said Quaid-i-Azam’s sayings and golden principles continue to serve as a guiding light for the country and are a guarantee of a bright national future, adding that these principles will remain a source of guidance for generations to come.

He also congratulated Pakistan’s Christian community on Christmas, acknowledging its active and positive role in the country’s progress. He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees equal rights and religious freedom to all citizens, and noted that the world today faces multiple challenges, including growing intolerance.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed warm Christmas greetings to the Christian community, stating that the government stands as an equal partner in their joy on this festive occasion. He said that Christmas serves as a reminder of the timeless message of love, sacrifice, brotherhood, and peace. The Minister noted that Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) preached the highest values of tolerance, respect for humanity, and compassion, adding that his teachings were meant for all of humanity rather than any single class or group.

Naqvi said that the Christian community has the full right to celebrate its religious and cultural rituals with complete freedom and enthusiasm. He praised the community’s proud and unforgettable role in education, health, defense, social services, and nation-building, adding that the Christian community has consistently promoted law enforcement and national unity. He further acknowledged their loyalty, sacrifice, and service to the country during challenging times.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Federal Minister said that protecting the rights of minorities is a national duty, as guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan. He said that promoting religious harmony and mutual respect is the foundation of a strong and developed Pakistan, and reiterated the resolve that followers of all religions in the country will enjoy equal respect, protection, and opportunities.
