President urges medicals universities to produce more professionals

ISLAMABAD (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday urged medical universities to increase the number of medical graduates to address the pressing demand for doctors and nurses in the country.
During the 6th session of the Senate of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University in Islamabad, President Alvi emphasized the need to bolster the healthcare workforce to ensure better accessibility to medical services for the general public.
Furthermore, he underscored the importance of creating a conducive, harassment-free environment for female doctors in the healthcare sector.
In addition, the president advised universities to enhance their performance in research and seek research grants from international sources by employing experts in the field.
The session, attended by Senator Samina Mumtaz and Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanveer Khalique of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, included a presentation on the university’s performance and future development projects.
The university reported an increase in admissions across various fields, particularly in nursing, and highlighted its achievement of training 429 specialists in various areas within a short timeframe. The institution has also secured substantial international research grants and exhibited significant progress in medical research.
Future plans for the university involve initiating new PhD programs and completing the construction of its inaugural teaching block.

President Alvi commended the university for its contributions to medical education and acknowledged its exceptional performance. He emphasized the importance of healthcare policies that focus on both disease treatment and prevention.
He stressed that early prevention and timely diagnosis could alleviate the burden on the healthcare system and lead to overall health improvements in the country at a reduced cost.
The session also marked the successful completion of the university’s first decade and its significant role in the healthcare sector.
Moreover, the university’s senate granted approval for amendments to the service laws of university employees, signifying a notable milestone.
The annual report of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University was presented during the session.
