President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, describing it as a historic development for the region and the world.
In a statement, the president said the agreement marked a significant moment and stressed that those who end wars are the true heroes. “War brings nothing but destruction and hardship,” he said, adding that peace remains the only path to development.
He said the memorandum could serve as a foundation for lasting peace in the region and noted that the recent conflict had caused severe difficulties for people across affected countries. He added that tensions had also disrupted global energy supplies, trade flows and economic stability.
Expressing hope for the future, President Zardari said such a situation should not be repeated and urged regional countries to now focus their energies on development, prosperity and public welfare.
He praised Pakistan’s leadership, including the prime minister, the foreign minister, the field marshal and the interior minister, for their role in supporting the diplomatic process. He also commended the leadership of US President Donald Trump, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iranian foreign minister for their roles in advancing the agreement.
The president further acknowledged the contributions of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Russia and China, saying their efforts helped facilitate dialogue and reduce tensions.
Zardari said Pakistan had played a principled, balanced and constructive role throughout the crisis, consistently advocating negotiations, restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes. He said Pakistan would continue to support diplomacy and regional stability.
Calling for full implementation of the agreement, the president urged all parties to honour their commitments under the memorandum. He said Pakistan would remain committed to promoting unity in the shared journey towards peace and prosperity in the region.
