Prices of vegetables skyrocket in Bahawalpur before Ramazan

BAHWALPUR: The prices of vegetables have skyrocketed ahead of the holy month of Ramazan, making them unaffordable for the common man.

According to reports gathered on Sunday, commission agents at the Fruits and Vegetables Market, along with traders involved in the vegetable business, have increased prices by 20 to 100 per cent. This surge has placed these essential items out of reach for many individuals already struggling with inflation.

For instance, tomatoes, previously priced at Rs100 per kilogram, have suddenly risen to Rs200 per kilogram. Onions, previously sold for Rs120 to 150 per kilogram, are now priced at Rs240 per kilogram.

Similarly, potatoes, previously available at Rs40 per kilogram, are now priced between Rs60 to 70 per kilogram. Garlic, which used to be sold for Rs500 to 600 per kilogram, is now being sold at Rs 650 to 800 per kilogram.

As Ramadan is expected to begin on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, the situation is concerning. Other items such as Shimla chillies are being sold at Rs 500 per kilogram, lemons at Rs100 to 200 per kilogram, fenugreek at Rs 80 per kilogram, and cabbage at Rs 100 to 150 per kilogram.
