WEB DESK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has strongly reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to combating violent extremism, terrorism, and hate-driven ideologies, declaring that the nation will persist in its national struggle against all forms of extremism.
In a message issued on the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, the Prime Minister emphasised that extremist and violent ideologies undermine peace, stability, and fundamental human values such as tolerance, mutual respect, and humanity. He described Islam as a religion of peace that promotes moderation, tolerance, dialogue, and respect for human life.
“Extremist and violent ideologies undermine peace and stability in societies and weaken core human values, including tolerance, mutual respect, and humanity,” PM Shehbaz stated. He further highlighted that “social justice, economic inclusion, and interfaith harmony form the basis of sustainable peace.”
Tribute to sacrifices and call for global justice
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the unparalleled sacrifices made by Pakistan over several decades in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. He honoured the security forces and civilians who have lost their lives, describing their contributions as a source of national pride and renewed resolve.
Addressing the youth, he stressed the importance of protecting them from extremist ideologies through education, opportunities, and the fostering of positive thinking. The Prime Minister underscored that unresolved global injustices, protracted conflicts, and human rights violations contribute to the spread of extremism and violence.
He specifically referred to situations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, where innocent civilians face state oppression and denial of basic rights, describing these as reflections of extremist behaviour. PM Shehbaz urged the international community to take effective measures towards just and peaceful resolutions of these longstanding disputes.
Pakistan, he affirmed, will continue to collaborate with the global community through cooperation, partnerships, and joint strategies to counter violent extremism and promote a just and peaceful world order.
“Islam is a religion of peace that promotes moderation, tolerance, dialogue, and respect for human life,” the Prime Minister reiterated, calling for a collective commitment to building a peaceful, secure, and harmonious society.
The statement comes amid ongoing security challenges, including a recent blast in Islamabad that drew international condemnation and expressions of solidarity with Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.
PM Shehbaz’s remarks were delivered in the context of the opening ceremony of Indus AI Week in Islamabad, where he also highlighted the role of technology and innovation in supporting national development and security.
Pakistan’s government has consistently prioritised national security, implementing comprehensive strategies to address both internal and external threats. The Prime Minister’s message serves as a reminder of the country’s enduring resolve: the fight against extremism will not waver until peace and stability are fully secured for all citizens.
