WEB DESK: Renowned Islamic scholar and former chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, has been admitted to intensive care after contracting dengue fever.
According to his associate, Naib Mufti Abdul Razzaq Naqshbandi, Mufti Muneeb was hospitalised two days ago at a private facility in Bahawalnagar after his health deteriorated. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for critical care.
A special team of doctors is currently overseeing his treatment. Naib Mufti Abdul Razzaq and other close associates have appealed to the public for prayers, requesting that the community pray for his swift and complete recovery.
Mufti Muneeb is widely respected across Pakistan for his religious guidance and his long-standing role in officiating the sighting of the moon for Islamic holidays.
Rise in dengue cases
Last week, Sindh reported a sharp rise in dengue infections, with 260 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, according to the provincial health department. During this period, 71 patients required hospitalisation, with Karachi recording the highest number of new admissions.
Health officials noted that 87 patients were discharged after recovery, and no new fatalities were reported. However, four dengue-related deaths were reported earlier this month, bringing this year’s total death toll in Sindh to 25.
Authorities have urged the public to eliminate stagnant water, maintain clean surroundings, and follow protective measures such as using mosquito repellent and wearing long sleeves to curb the spread.
