GILGIT: Protest demonstrations erupted in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan following Friday prayers, as thousands of people took to the streets to condemn the killing of at least 42 individuals and the injuring of more than 30 others in a militant attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Kurram district.
The rallies, held in Skardu, Gilgit, Kharmang, Hunza, Nagar, Sirmik, and other areas, expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and demanded justice. Protestors raised slogans against the government and law enforcement agencies for failing to ensure the safety of citizens.
In Skardu, a massive demonstration began at the Imamia Jamma Masjid after Friday prayers. Thousands marched through the streets, denouncing the authorities for what they termed as negligence in protecting the Shia community. Speakers at the rally alleged that the government and security agencies showed little interest in preventing attacks targeting the Shia community and demanded immediate action to ensure the safety of Parachinar residents.

A similar rally in Gilgit saw demonstrators march from the Imamia Jamma Masjid to condemn the violence in Lower Kurram. Participants called for decisive, result-oriented action against militants and their facilitators across the country to prevent future atrocities.
The protestors expressed outrage over the authorities’ inability to curb rising militancy, questioning how terrorists could operate with impunity while the state remained silent. They urged the government to take robust measures to restore law and order and ensure the safety of vulnerable communities.
The rallies underscored the growing discontent among the Shia community and their demand for effective measures to protect their lives and rights. Protest leaders emphasized the need for accountability and a comprehensive strategy to tackle the menace of terrorism.
Enraged speaker, Sheikh Kiramat Ali condemned the failure of government and LEAs in protecting innocent people saying, “Martyrdom is our legacy, but we will not die like this. We will die, but O generals, O prime minister, O Gandapur, we will turn you into a curse for eternity, just as Hazrat Zainab turned Yazid into a curse.”
