Washington: Protests across the US state of Minnesota have intensified over the past week following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by a federal agent of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, raising serious security concerns in the state.

Demonstrations have spread across multiple cities, leading to road closures and reports of damage to both public and private property. In response, the US Department of Defense has placed 1,500 active-duty soldiers on standby for potential deployment to assist state authorities if needed. The Pentagon has also issued alerts to military personnel to ensure a rapid response capability.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has mobilised the National Guard amid growing clashes between protesters and federal agents. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement, while human rights organizations are calling for restraint from all parties involved.

The protests erupted after the deadly encounter involving 37-year-old Renee Good, prompting widespread outrage over the actions of ICE agents. Legal measures, including restrictions on the conduct of immigration authorities during protests, have also been put in place. Federal and state officials continue to closely monitor the situation as efforts to maintain public safety and address concerns unfold.
