LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators, led by Saud Shakeel, secured their first win of PSL 11 with a convincing 40-run victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on Sunday.
Defending 175, Quetta’s bowlers delivered a dominant performance to restrict Hyderabad to 134-8 in 20 overs.
Alzarri Joseph provided an early breakthrough, dismissing Saim Ayub, while Abrar Ahmed struck twice in quick succession to leave Hyderabad struggling at 17-2.
The Kingsmen continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, with Usman Tariq and Saud Shakeel also chipping in.
A brief resistance came through partnerships involving Saad Ali, Marnus Labuschagne, Irfan Khan Niazi, and Hassan Khan, but consistent breakthroughs from Abrar and Ahmed Daniyal kept Quetta in control throughout the innings.
Earlier, Quetta posted 174-8 after being put in to bat. Openers Saud Shakeel and Shamyl Hussain started positively before Riley Meredith removed Saud and Rilee Rossouw early.
Shamyl then combined with Hassan Nawaz to rebuild the innings with a crucial 50-run stand. Shamyl scored a solid 54, while Hassan anchored the innings with a composed half-century.
Late strikes by Maheesh Theekshana slowed Quetta’s progress, but Tom Curran’s quickfire 31 and a late cameo from Abrar Ahmed helped push the total to a competitive score.
