ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Friday granted permission to mobile operators to begin a phased rollout of 5G services across the country.
The regulator said it had issued Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS)/5G licences to major cellular mobile operators, including Jazz, Ufone and Zong, enabling them to formally launch 5G services.
According to the PTA, the rollout will take place in phases to ensure improved service quality and user experience.
Operators will publish updated lists of areas where 5G services are available on their official websites to keep consumers informed.
The authority said details of compatible 5G mobile devices will also be provided, allowing users to check whether their smartphones support the new technology.
Only selected 5G-enabled smartphone models listed by operators will be able to access the service in areas where coverage is available, it added, noting that availability will depend on network presence, location and device compatibility.
The PTA advised users to enable 5G settings on their devices and ensure their operating systems are updated to the latest versions for optimal performance.
The regulator said it remained committed to ensuring the transparent and effective rollout of advanced 5G technology across the country.
