PTA reduces eSIM charges to Rs1,500, increases free transfer limit

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a major reduction in eSIM charges and increased the limit for free eSIM transfers, in a move aimed at promoting affordability and wider adoption of the technology.

According to the PTA, the revised charges and free transfer facility will come into effect from August 17, 2026.

Under the new policy, Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) will charge a maximum retail price of Rs1,500 for the issuance of an eSIM or conversion of a physical SIM into an eSIM.

The concession will also be available to users in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the PTA said.

The telecom regulator further announced that transferring an eSIM profile from one mobile device to another will be free of charge for up to 10 migrations.

The measure is aimed at ensuring greater affordability, transparency and consumer convenience while supporting the wider adoption of eSIM technology in Pakistan.

The PTA said the decision is also in line with the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
