ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on Thursday that efforts are underway to restore internet services following a fault in the SMW-5 submarine cable, which has affected internet traffic across the country.
The PTA said it is continuously monitoring the situation as users in different areas experience temporary slow speeds and connectivity issues.
According to the authority, the fault may cause intermittent degradation in internet service quality.
Transworld Associates and the SMW-5 consortium are working to fix the technical issue, while the exact cause of the fault and restoration timeline are being assessed.
PTA added that internet traffic is being rerouted through alternative international links to ensure continuity of services.
The regulator further said it remains in constant contact with relevant stakeholders, and all possible measures are being taken to fully restore internet services across the country at the earliest.
