ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided that no party workers will accompany Imran Khan’s sisters or his legal team to Adiala Jail during their scheduled meeting with the PTI founder today (Tuesday), party sources confirmed.
The decision came during a parliamentary party meeting of the opposition alliance, where members discussed the protocol and procedure for interactions with the incarcerated former prime minister.
According to insiders, the leadership reached a unanimous conclusion that avoiding any unnecessary crowding at the jail was essential to prevent giving the government an excuse to launch a crackdown or create hurdles. Opposition leaders also highlighted the need for discipline and restraint in the current political climate.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan told members that any formal message or position should be conveyed through the Speaker, provided the party’s representation is included in the advisory committee.
Sources added that Mehmood Khan Achakzai and other senior leaders instructed the Speaker to attend the committee meeting and clarify the opposition’s stance, underscoring the party’s intent to avoid confrontation while maintaining a unified message.
GOVT HARDENS STANCE AGAINST IMRAN
Earlier, Senator Rana Sanaullah had said that the possibility of initiating a treason case against the former prime minister “cannot be ruled out.” He suggested that Imran Khan’s political future may mirror that of MQM London and its founder.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also said that if there a commotion were to be caused outside Adiala jail or the situation became dangerous for other prisoners, “a prisoner would be transferred.”
