ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker and Secretary General Salman Akran Raja on Tuesday challenged the Punjab election tribunals in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The PTI secretary general pleaded with the Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP) to review the September 30 decision, where the apex court had nullified the Lahore High Court’s decision of appointing serving judges as heads of the tribunal.
On September 30, a five-member larger bench of the SC nullified the LHC’s decision related to the formation of the Punjab election tribunals without keeping in view the no-meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner and the chief justice. Had the no-meeting the two have been kept in view, the decision would not have been made, the Supreme Court observed.

In the application, PTI highlighted that the meeting between the chief justice of the LHC and the Chief Election Commissioner cannot be a reason to take back the names of serving judges for the election tribunals.
Salman Akram Raja has taken the plea that after a meeting between the LHC chief justice and the Chief Election Commissioner, the names of serving judges for the election tribunals were retracted.
He said that on April 4, the LHC’s registrar notified six election tribunals after a meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner and the LHC chief justice leading to the withdrawal of the names of the serving judges as heads of the election tribunals.
