Punjab Chief Organiser of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Aliya Hamza, was arrested in Lahore on Thursday in connection with multiple cases, party sources confirmed.

In a statement shared on social media, PTI Punjab said Hamza had been taken into custody and moved to an undisclosed location. The party strongly criticised the arrest, alleging it was part of a political vendetta. “False cases have been filed against Aliya Hamza. She is being targeted once again. We strongly condemn this action,” the statement read.

According to reports, Hamza had travelled to Lahore to celebrate Eid with her family and children when authorities detained her. Official confirmation from law enforcement regarding her arrest is yet to be released. Previously, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her involvement in the May 9 riot case, along with a five-year sentence for other offences.

Senior PTI leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser voiced his disapproval on social media, describing the arrest as unjust and an example of politically motivated targeting. He called the situation “condemnable and deeply regrettable,” urging authorities to review the matter.
