LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been admitted to Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) Hospital after falling ill.

According to sources, Qureshi has been diagnosed with gallstones, and doctors have recommended gallbladder surgery.

Sources said that Qureshi has been admitted to PKLI, where Dr Faisal is supervising his treatment.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that PTI’s old guard is preparing to launch a movement for the release of Imran Khan and has met Qureshi at PKLI in this regard.

According to sources, the movement will include senior PTI leaders such as Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Imran Ismail, Ali Zaidi, Mahmood Moulvi, Sibtain Khan and others.

Sources further said that Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail and Mahmood Moulvi have already met Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

It was also reported that the old PTI leadership will seek Imran Khan’s approval for the movement and plans to bring in their former political associates from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources noted that the old leadership is expected to take an active role after Qureshi’s release, maintaining that the party’s current leadership is unable to secure Imran Khan’s release.

In August, Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Manzar Ali Gul had ordered the release of Shah Mehmood Qureshi in two cases related to May 9 incidents. The court had issued a letter to the jail superintendent to release Qureshi if he was not wanted in any other case.
