KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh chapter has declared a boycott of the upcoming Senate elections, citing concerns over the legitimacy of the electoral process.
Provincial President Haleem Adil Sheikh stated that the decision was made due to the presence of members in assemblies with a ‘stolen mandate’. He emphasized the illegitimacy of the entire system, including the prime minister.
Sheikh highlighted instances of alleged electoral malpractice, mentioning the abduction of hopeful candidates during by-elections in Sindh and the rejection of nomination papers in the presence of PPP candidate Aseefa Bhutto. He accused Aseefa of election theft and stated that the PTI candidate is contesting the rejection of nomination papers in a tribunal.
Regarding the Senate elections, Sheikh asserted that rigging and theft are prevalent, particularly noting the absence of Form 45 members in assemblies. As a result, PTI Sindh has opted out of participating in the Senate elections from the province.
Furthermore, Sheikh clarified that the PTI does not recognize the results of February 8 but accepts the results of February 9.
Despite the presence of their parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly, their hopeful candidates will withdraw from the Senate elections, he said.
Sheikh also announced a plan for a public court in Karachi on April 28. He questioned the allegiance of Faisal Vawda and the source of his nomination papers.
