PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has filed an appeal against the decision of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) regarding the allotment of election symbols and ballot tickets to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

The petition, filed by the legal representatives of the commission, has initiated a legal proceeding in the PHC. The request specifically urges the court to establish a two-member bench with special powers to expedite the resolution of the matter.

Fawad Chaudhry’s physical remand extended for 6-days

The PHC had previously suspended ECP’s decision on December 26, pertaining to the PTI’s participation in the upcoming elections and the allocation of electoral symbols.

The court had also issued directives to the ECP to publish PTI’s certificate on their official website, ensuring transparency in the legal process.

The development follows a series of controversies surrounding the ECP’s and PHC’s decisions.

PTI’s Spokesperson Advocate Moazzam Butt, in a conversation with the media, said that the ECP has given a flawed application. “The ECP does not want to conduct fair elections”, he said, adding, “I am surprised at the request of the ECP”, Spokesman PTI Advocate Moazzam Butt”.

He alleged that PHC Chief Justice is being threatened and police is stationed outside court. He also said that ECP representatives did not appear in the hearing of PTI’s case.
