ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday has announced a public holiday on election day (Feburary 8).
A notification to this effect has been issued.
Public holiday on Feb 8 has been announced to facilitate the public to cast their vote, according to the notification.
With February 8 announced as a public holiday in Pakistan on the occasion of the general elections, and considering that Kashmir Day falls on a Monday, Pakistanis will enjoy two public holidays within the same week.
During the last general elections in the country, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also declared a holiday on the day of polling.
SCHOOLS CLOSURE
The caretaker Punjab cabinet has already approved to keep educational institutions closed across the province during the election 2024.
“In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th,” caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a post on X.
