Punjab activates monitoring units to enforce Loudspeaker Act

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired an important meeting on law and order and it was to strictly implement the Loudspeaker Act across the province.

The meeting approved the use of cameras and modern technology to identify violations of the Loudspeaker Act.

It was decided that no individual or organisation will be allowed to use loudspeakers for any purpose other than those permitted by law.

The meeting was told that there will be no restrictions on the use of loudspeakers for Friday sermons and the call to prayer (Azaan) across Punjab.

It was decided that strict action will be taken against anyone using loudspeakers to spread hatred or incite violence.

The meeting was told that special monitoring units have been activated to track hate content on digital platforms.

Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities to complete arrangements for the monthly stipends for over 65,000 clerics.

The meeting was told that the digital mapping of mosques has already begun to facilitate the stipend distribution among the 65,000 clerics.

It was decided that all facilities will be provided for the renovation and maintenance of mosques, including clearing surrounding pathways and improving drainage systems.

The meeting clarified that no religious party, except those involved in incitement or extremism, will face restrictions.

The meeting was told that religious groups following the code of conduct may continue their activities without interference. The Punjab government will fully support organisations promoting religious harmony.

The chief minister expressed satisfaction over public cooperation in surrendering illegal weapons and directed strict action against those possessing or concealing illegal arms.

The Punjab government also announced severe punishment for thoses facilitating or harbouring illegal foreign nationals.

It was decided that action under the PECA Act will be taken against those spreading hate, misinformation, or incitement on social media.
