Punjab govt launches first AI roadmap to become South Asia’s leading AI hub by 2029

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched Artificial Intelligence for the first time in Lahore to become the leading AI hub of South Asia by 2029.
As part of the initiative, the world’s first AI Delivery Unit will be established in Punjab, according to officials, with the Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, serving as the Chairperson of the AI Delivery Unit and the Special Project Team.
During a high-level meeting, Provincial AI Advisor Ali Dar gave a detailed briefing on the proposed AI roadmap.
This initiative will create more than 100,000 job opportunities for locals within the next three years, according to government sources.
The initiative could also increase the province’s GDP by 5 to 10 per cent and potentially boost foreign exchange earnings by 10 to 20 billion dollars.
CM Maryam has also approved the formation of an AI Technical Advisory Board to guide the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that AI would be used to enhance the efficiency and capacity of every government department.
She added that the initiative would help fully utilise the potential of Punjab’s youth through modern technology.
