Punjab govt lifts ban on Avastin injection

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Saturday authorised the use of Avastin injections for eye patients under new standard operating procedures (SOPs), ending a ban that had been in place for over nine months.

According to the notification issued by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department, government hospitals and registered eye specialists are allowed to engage distributors for the supply of Avastin injections.

The notification read that hospitals cannot send Avastin injections filled in syringes outside. Avastin injections are mandated to be sold exclusively at registered pharmacies.

Government hospitals and registered eye specialists can involve distributors for Avastin injection supply. The notification further read that maintaining cleanliness in the filling area is crucial to prevent contamination.

In September last year, the Punjab government imposed an indefinite ban on the use of Avastin injections for eye patients across the province.
