Punjab govt releases Rs1.6 billion for free school books

LAHORE: On Thursday, the Punjab government allocated Rs1.6 billion to furnish school students across the province with free textbooks, signalling its commitment to education accessibility. This funding has been specifically earmarked to ensure that students in Punjab have access to necessary educational materials. The Finance Department has facilitated the disbursement of this budget to the Schools Education Department through online channels.

Simultaneously, the School Education Department has directed all school principals to download a tree plantation application as part of an ongoing campaign aimed at greening schools throughout Punjab, including Lahore. The application will serve as a platform for documenting and sharing photos of tree plantation activities undertaken by schools.

Moreover, it will catalogue details regarding the types and growth progress of trees already planted within school premises.

In line with these directives, the School Education Department has issued a formal communication to all school administrators, emphasizing compliance with these instructions.
