Punjab govt to impose ban on sale of antibiotics without doctor’s prescription

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to ban the sale of antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription to stop the misuse.
The decision was taken during the meeting of the Drug Quality Control Board chaired by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir.

It was decided during the meeting that the Punjab Health Care Commission will initiate consultations with the Drug Regulatory Authority once the decision is made. Meanwhile, the Drug Control Wing, Health Care Commission, and Drug Regulatory Authority will coordinate recommendations within seven days.
The meeting also decided to regulate the sale of antibiotics in medical stores. It is clear that medical professionals consider the misuse of antibiotics to be extremely detrimental to human health.
