PSCA CCTV

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government on Monday decided to install 9,200 CCTV cameras in 43 jails across the province to identify the vehicles and the people visiting jails to meet the inmates.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Punjab Home Secretary Norul Amin Mengal.

The home secretary ordered Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) high-ups to conduct a survey and submit a complete report within one week for the installation of the hidden cameras.

It was decided at the meeting that body cams, public address systems, access control systems, and panic buttons would also be installed in jails.

The meeting decided that cameras with eight megapixels would be installed in jails to conveniently recognise faces and vehicles.

The visitor management system will also be activated in the jails to keep an eye on all the meetings happening with the inmates.

The cameras will have the features of artificial intelligence for the surveillance of both the inmates and the jail officials. The cameras will automatically generate an alarm on any violations made by inmates or the officials.

According to the home secretary, the first phase of the camera installation will be carried out in central jails and other jails where high-profile inmates are kept.
