Punjab govt unveils environmental conservation project

LAHORE: The Punjab provincial government has unveiled ambitious plans for what is poised to be the most extensive environmental and forest conservation endeavour in the nation’s history.
Led by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, a crucial meeting convened in Lahore to chart the course for combating smog and eliminating single-use plastic bags across Punjab.
During the gathering, pivotal decisions were made, including the revitalization and modernization of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), along with revisions to the Punjab Forest Act to meet contemporary environmental standards.
Moreover, collaborative efforts with the private sector to devise province-wide strategies for reducing air pollution received unanimous approval. Notably, the assembly also greenlit Punjab’s inaugural zoological survey and the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Plan for Pakistan Vision.

A significant highlight was the endorsement of Lahore’s premier international fish market establishment and the integration of state-of-the-art technology into the wildlife department’s modernization efforts. Additionally, plans were cemented for Punjab’s pioneering digital wildlife archive and the establishment of a dedicated wildlife protection force.
