WEB DESK: In a significant development, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has announced that the redesigned health cards will soon become operational.
Highlighting her commitment to healthcare, she emphasised that the overhaul would extend to the revamping of basic health units (BHUs) and rural health centres (RHCs) in a phased manner across the province.
One of the major initiatives discussed was the introduction of a free medicine plan during emergencies in government hospitals across Punjab. This move is expected to enhance accessibility to crucial medications for the public.
In a special meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, a unanimous decision was reached to initiate home delivery of medicines, set to commence on May 1.
This innovative step aims to streamline the healthcare system and improve convenience for citizens.
The Chief Minister has also directed efforts towards enhancing the pathology system. She emphasised the need for improving standards in pathology labs throughout Punjab and has called for a comprehensive plan in this regard.
The proposal to establish a central pathology lab for government hospitals was thoroughly reviewed during the meeting.
Furthermore, CM Maryam Nawaz has sought recommendations and proposals for the establishment of a medical city in three districts.
This forward-looking approach aims to create dedicated healthcare hubs for enhanced medical facilities.
To optimise existing resources, the Chief Minister has requested a list of vacant, uninhabited, and shut-down hospital buildings across Punjab.
This strategic move aligns with the government’s commitment to efficient resource utilisation for the benefit of the public.
