LAHORE: Punjab Police has been placed on high alert to ensure comprehensive security for the Christian community during the Easter festival, with extensive arrangements finalised across the province.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Rao Abdul Kareem, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Christian community as well as Christian police officers and personnel on the occasion of Easter. He noted that Punjab Police stands as an equal partner in the celebrations and joys of the Christian community.
According to official statements, security measures for Easter have been fully implemented, with more than 17,000 police officers and personnel deployed to safeguard 3,153 Easter-related events throughout the province. Authorities have described the arrangements as thorough and proactive, aimed at ensuring peaceful celebrations.
In Lahore alone, over 3,000 officers and officials have been assigned to provide security for 647 Easter programs, a police spokesperson confirmed. The city has been identified as a key focus area due to the high number of congregations and gatherings.
The IGP added that additional personnel, including snipers and specially trained police commandos, have been deployed at sensitive churches to address potential threats. Strict entry protocols have also been enforced, with instructions that participants be allowed access to churches only after complete checking and proper identification.
Reiterating the department’s commitment, Abdul Kareem, assured that all necessary steps have been taken to provide full security to the Christian community during the festival. He again conveyed his Easter greetings, highlighting unity and shared celebration across communities.
Punjab Police officials say these measures reflect the department’s dedication to maintaining law and order while ensuring that religious minorities can observe their festivals safely and without fear.
