LAHORE: Punjab Police carried out 273 search operations over the past 10 days, according to a spokesperson for the department.

During these operations, police checked 7,722 houses, 3,616 tenants, and 24,327 individuals. Legal action was taken against 107 people for various violations as well.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 7,549 search operations have been conducted. In these operations, authorities checked 266,431 houses, 113,872 tenants, and 840,202 individuals. Legal action was taken against 4,368 people.

According to the spokesperson, 443 people were proceeded against under the Tenancy Act, and 1,156 proclaimed offenders were arrested. Additionally, 850 drug-related cases were registered.

Other figures include 88 people detained under the Criminal Code, 652 cases related to illegal weapons, and 493 cases of alcohol consumption.

Police also checked the records of 479 hotels, 285 guest houses, and 192 hostels. Records from 125 factories and 11,038 shops were also reviewed.

TRAFFIC POLICE FOLLOWS SUIT

The spokesperson also shared that action is ongoing across the province against overspeeding. More than 95,000 challan tickets have been issued this year for exceeding speed limits, representing a 97 per cent increase in enforcement actions.

Motorcycles and commercial vehicles are also being checked. Speed detection is being carried out using speed guns and Safe City cameras, the spokesperson said.

INTEL OPERATIONS

Earlier in August, Punjab law enforcement agencies carried out 302 intelligence-based operations across Punjab as well. As part of these operations, police checked the credentials and identities of 10,989 individuals. A total of 54 suspected persons were taken into custody.

Sharing an update on broader efforts this year, police said 85,169 operations have been conducted across the province since January. Regarding the crackdown on criminal elements, Punjab Police recovered 289 rifles and 2,101 pistols from various suspects. Additionally, 261 shotguns and a significant quantity of ammunition were also seized.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has instructed officers to continue operations against criminal elements across the province with full commitment.
