LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to launch a major reform project aimed at modernising the province’s education system and bringing uniformity across all education boards.

Under the new initiative, students will be provided with Chromebooks in place of traditional textbooks to promote digital learning and improve access to educational resources. According to the School Education Department, the move will significantly reduce the cost of printing textbooks, saving billions of rupees annually.

Officials said the Chromebook project will be implemented in phases. In the first phase, a pilot project will be launched for primary classes. After evaluating its outcomes, the initiative will be gradually expanded to cover more grades and schools across the province.

In a parallel development, the Punjab government has also decided to unify the rules and regulations of all education boards in the province. Currently, education boards operate under different laws and regulations, which often create difficulties for certificate holders.

To address this issue, the acts governing all education boards will be amended to ensure uniformity. The Department of Higher Education has already begun working on the proposed legal changes.

Authorities believe that these reforms will not only modernise the education system but also ensure consistency, transparency, and ease for students across Punjab.
