ISLAMABAD: Residents across Balochistan were jolted on Friday morning as a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck near the city of Khuzdar. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the tremors originated at 11:30 AM PST, with the epicenter located 86 kilometers northeast of Khuzdar at a shallow depth of 13 kilometers.
The quake’s intensity was widely felt in Khuzdar, Shahdadkot, and surrounding areas, causing buildings to shake and residents to rush outdoors in alarm. While preliminary reports indicate no immediate casualties, authorities are surveying affected areas for potential structural damage.
The PMD coordinates of the epicenter were recorded at 28.31°N latitude and 67.29°E longitude, and the department has urged locals to remain cautious of possible aftershocks.
Local emergency services have been put on alert, and officials are monitoring the situation closely to provide assistance where needed. Residents are being advised to stay calm and follow standard earthquake safety protocols.
