Rain, hail lash parts of Karachi

KARACHI: Light to moderate rain lashed several areas of Karachi on Tuesday, with some neighbourhoods also witnessing hail, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast further showers in parts of the country.

Rain was reported in Nazimabad, Sakhi Hassan, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Jauhar, while Malir Halt and Rifah-e-Aam Society received light to heavy showers accompanied by strong winds.

Hail was reported in Malir Cantonment and Liaquatabad, where rainwater accumulated on roads in several areas.

Showers were also recorded in Baldia Town and the SITE industrial area and their surrounding localities.

According to data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall in the city was recorded at Jinnah Terminal with 20 millimetres. Nazimabad received 8.5 mm, while 5.8 mm was recorded at the University Road’s NED/Met Complex station.

The PMD had earlier forecast thunderstorms and rain in Karachi.

The Met Office also predicted rain accompanied by gusty winds in various parts of the country.

It said that partly cloudy conditions are expected in Islamabad. Rain has been forecast for Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar, as well as Multan, Khanewal and Sahiwal and adjoining areas.

In Balochistan, rain is expected in Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Sibi, Kalat, Kech, Panjgur, Washuk, Kharan, Lasbela and Khuzdar, while parts of Gwadar may receive rain and hail.

Showers are also forecast at isolated places in Karachi, Dadu, Jamshoro, Larkana, Jacobabad and Hyderabad and nearby areas.

Rain is expected in Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan and Tank, as well as Lakki Marwat, Karak and Parachinar.

Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to remain cold with partly cloudy skies, while rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is forecast at isolated places in Azad Kashmir.
