Intermittent heavy rain continued to lash the city on Tuesday, inundating several low-lying areas and disrupting routine life, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast more showers in the coming hours.
According to officials, around 29 millimetres of rainfall has been recorded so far. Water accumulated in multiple low-lying areas including Gulberg, Saddar Bazaar, Railway Road, Dean’s Chowk, Nothia and Gulbahar, causing difficulties for commuters and residents.
Urban flooding and weather outlook
The Met Office has predicted further rain not only in Peshawar but also across most plain districts of the province. In upper areas, snowfall is also expected over mountainous regions, indicating a broader weather system affecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In Shabqadar and surrounding areas, heavy rain has been ongoing since the night, turning the weather pleasant but also raising concerns about potential damage to wheat crops due to prolonged rainfall.
Rain spreads across Punjab and highways
Rainfall has also been reported across مختلف parts of Punjab, including stretches of major motorways such as M-2, M-3, M-4 and M-11, as well as national highways linking cities like Lahore, Multan, Khanewal and Bahawalpur.
A spokesperson for the motorway police, Syed Imran Ahmed, said weather conditions remain cloudy with rain at multiple نقاط, urging commuters to drive cautiously, maintain safe distances and avoid sudden braking.
In Lahore, the city remained overcast with cool winds, while light rain is expected at any time during the day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 17°C, with a maximum likely to reach 25°C.
Meanwhile, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds was reported in Liaquatpur, leading to power outages after multiple feeders tripped. Similar conditions were observed in Chishtian, where low-lying areas were submerged and supply was disrupted.
Heavy rain in Islamabad
In Islamabad, heavy rain also lashed various sectors, bringing down temperatures and turning the weather pleasant. However, the downpour led to water accumulation in several low-lying areas, raising concerns about urban flooding and traffic disruptions.
Authorities have advised citizens to remain cautious, particularly while travelling, as wet conditions continue to affect roads and visibility across multiple regions.
