Rain, snowfall expected over the weekend

ISLAMABAD: Rain and snowfall is expected due to a strong westerly winds affecting the upper and central part of Pakistan over the weekend.

According to the met office, from the night of February 17, westerly winds will enter the western regions of the country while on February 18, the series of winds and rains will cover most of the central and upper regions of the country.

According to the Met office, moderate to heavy rain/thunderstorm as well as isolated hailstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Feb 17 (Saturday) to Feb 21 with occasional gaps.

Islamabad Rawalpindi including Attock Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujarat, Gujranwala and Hafizabad is expected to receive strong winds and thundershowers from Feb 17 till Feb 21, according to the forecast.

Moreover, in Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur, strong winds and thundershowers are also expected.

Similarly, rainy spell in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would last for four days – from Feb 17 to Feb 20,

In the case of southern Punjab and northern/north-western Balochistan, the rainfall is predicted on Sunday and Monday [Feb 18 and 19].

However, weather will remain dry in Sindh with its southern parts witnessing strong gusty winds from Feb 18 to Feb 20.

During the current winter season, there has been little to no precipitation, and the mountains in the north of Pakistan have received minimal snowfall. This absence of snow cover is attributed to the complete lack of western disturbances, which typically bring rainfall to the region. This situation highlights the significant impact of global warming.
