RAWALPINDI: The highly anticipated Australia vs South Africa match has been cancelled due to heavy rain in the garrison city.
While the rain brought joy and relief to the residents of the twin cities amid a severe water shortage caused by a dry winter, it also brought disappointment for cricket fans, who are using social media to express it.
After the cancellation of the match, both teams are awarded one point each as the downpour washed out all chances of play.
The Group B teams now have three points each, while the other two teams in the group, England and Afghanistan, remain at zero.
‘Complete overhaul’: What went wrong for Pakistan in Champions Trophy
How rain affected the Group B?
Today’s Australia vs South Africa clash was expected to play a crucial role in determining which team would potentially qualify for the Champions Trophy. Had the match taken place and South Africa defeated Australia, they would have secured a spot in the semi-finals with four points and a strong net run rate.
However, with both South Africa and Australia now tied at three points, the balance has shifted in favour of Afghanistan.
So its time for Afghans to pick up calculator to count points and play the game of ‘ifs and buts’.
However, Afghanistan have clear chances of qualifying for the semis if they somehow won both of their upcoming matches.
How to claim refund for tickets?
As the Australia vs South Africa match has been abandoned due to continuous downpour in Rawalpindi, pindi boys are now left wondering what will happen to their precious match passes.
Hamza, a die-hard cricket fan, said, “Australia is my favourite team, and I had taken leave from my evening shift to enjoy the match, but the rain ruined everything.”
He was also unsure about how to get a refund for his ticket.
Regarding the refund, a link has been provided on the back of the ticket; however, it does not lead to the refund policy. Meanwhile, the documents containing the ticket terms and conditions clearly state, “There shall be no Ticket Refund Policy until such time as it is published on https://pcb.tcs.com.pk/icctickets or otherwise made available to the Ticket Purchaser.”
This implies that tickets for the Australia vs South Africa match are non-refundable.
