ISLAMABAD: Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah dismissed speculation about a change in the country’s leadership on Saturday, saying certain elements were spreading baseless rumours to create political instability.

Responding to a question on whether a change in the prime minister was being considered after the budget, Rana Sanaullah said the reports were “completely false” and that no such matter was under review.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was currently leading the country effectively and that Pakistan was gaining respect and recognition at the international level under his leadership. “At such a time, raising this kind of debate only serves the interests of anti-state elements,” he added.

Rana Sanaullah stressed that the government had consistently sought dialogue with the opposition. He also noted that when he himself was in opposition, cases were filed against him, highlighting what he described as the difficult nature of political life.
