Ravichandran Ashwin equals Shane Warne’s 18-year-old record

ISLAMABAD: Indian crickter Ravichandran Ashwin has equaled Shane Warne’s record for the most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, securing his 37th five-for on the fourth day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This milestone brings Ashwin closer to Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who holds the record with 67 five-wicket hauls.

Ashwin reached this impressive feat in just 191 innings and, at 38 years and 5 days old, has also become the oldest Indian to claim a five-wicket haul in Test matches.

Ashwin is now only the second player in history to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same Test match on four occasions, following Ian Botham, who achieved this five times. He joins a select group that includes Garry Sobers, Jacques Kallis, Mushtaq Mohammad, Shakib Al Hasan, and Ravindra Jadeja, all of whom have accomplished this feat twice.
