WEB DESK: The Rawalpindi Traffic Police is set to issue driving permits to applicants between the ages of 16 and 18. Officials stated that parental consent will be mandatory for obtaining the permit.

On the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif the move would be for young people allowing eligible teenagers to legally operate motorcycles and scooters under specific conditions.

Spokesperson Rawalpindi Traffic Police said permit holders would only be allowed to drive motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc engine capacity. To apply for the permit, applicants must provide a Smart Card or a B-Form and candidates will also be required to pass both a traffic sign test and a practical road test. The annual fee for obtaining a Juvenile Driving Permit will range from Rs 500 to Rs 1000.

Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam emphasised that wearing a helmet will be mandatory for all juvenile permit holders while operating motorcycles or scooters and warned that permits may be suspended or canceled in cases of serious traffic violations or repeated breaches of road safety regulations.

The program is expected to be implemented through traffic police offices, with authorities encouraging eligible youth to complete the required training and testing before obtaining the permit.
